Marjorie J. Anderson, age 97, of Morris, IL, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2019 at Park Pointe Healthcare with her
loving family at her side.
Born April 19, 1921 in Newark, IL, Marjorie Jurene was the daughter of Floyd and Dora (Dominy) Jorstad. She attended
Newark Grade School and Morris High School. She received a Bachelor of Education degree from Illinois State University. On
December 27, 1941, Marge married Ariel Anderson in Morris, IL, where they lived their entire lives.
Marge taught at numerous one room Grundy County schools. She ended her teaching career at Morris Middle School where
she taught 8th grade English and then became full time librarian. Marge was a lifelong Lutheran and belonged to Friends in
Christ Lutheran Church. At age 90, she fulfilled a lifelong goal to read the Bible, cover to cover. She was active in many
organizations: Hospital Auxiliary (30+ years), Morris Women’s Club, Pleasant View Luther Home Board, Lutheran Ladies Aid,
Circle, Missions Aid, and church council.
Marge loved attending many family games and sports activities. She also took up golfing and bowling in retirement, and she
enjoyed these activities well into her 80’s. She was an avid Chicago Bulls and Cubs fan. She attended many Cubs games with
family but attended her only Bulls game at 89. Marge loved playing all kinds of card games; even played solitaire as recently
as last week.
Above all else, Marge loved her family and friends and will be missed by all who knew her. Survivors include children: Pat
Horn of Davis, CA, Jean (Ted) Struck of Morris, and Andy (Gretchen) Anderson of Bloomington, IL. Grandchildren: Mikey
(Bambi) Alexander, Scott (Christa Gannon) Alexander, Marc (Yuan Ping) Alexander, Jeff (Lisa) Horn, Erika (Chris) James,
Jarod (Cheris) Struck, Drue (Danielle) Anderson, and Kristin (Patrick) Rees. Great grandchildren: Bethany (David)
Anderson, Ben (Crystal) Morris, Nicholas Alexander, Hailey and Luke Alexander, Kai and Ray Alexander, Haisley and Henrik
Horn, Keagan and Maya James, Chloe and Holten Struck, Liam, Ryan and Duke Anderson, and Kieran Rees. Great great
grandchildren: Jessica, Grace, Allison, and Sarah Anderson and Kylie, Isaiah and Jeremiah Morris. She is also survived by a
sister-in-law, Edye Jorstad, her BFF of over 60 years, Doris Stangland, her beloved Wednesday breakfast group, many
nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ariel on November 26, 2008, brothers and sisters-in-law:
Manley (Charlotte) Jorstad, Wesley (Edith) Jorstad, Norman Jorstad and Jerry Jorstad, great grandchildren: Jessica Horn and
The family will receive family and friends for a memorial visitation and celebration of Marge’s life from 9:00 am to 11:00 am
Monday, January 28th, at Friends in Christ Lutheran Church. The funeral and luncheon will follow immediately at the church.
Interment will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in Marge’s name be given to Joliet Area Community Hospice, Friends in
Christ Lutheran Church, or Park Pointe Healthcare activity fund.
