Erwin L. “Sonny” Kelly Jr., 78, of Coal City, passed away early Tuesday morning, December 26, 2017 at his home with his family
by his side.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Morris with Pastor
Patrick Lohse officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at
the Fruland Funeral Home, 121 W. Jefferson St., in Morris.
Born August 14, 1939 in Morris, he was the son of Erwin L. and Ethel (Eichelkraut) Kelly. He was educated in the Morris school
system, graduating from Morris Community High School with the class of 1958 and attended one year at Chicago Institute of
Fine Arts. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1965 with the military police and was stationed in Germany. Sonny married
Delores Ann Lanier on June 04, 1966 at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. He was employed with the Federal Paper Board
Company from 1958 to 1995 and later the company was sold to International Paper Company where he continued to work until
August of 1997. Then spent 25 years at the Morris Plant and 17 years at Sprague Connecticut Plant and retired in 1997 and
moved back to Coal City.
He is survived by his loving wife, Delores; his children, Michael Kelly of Channahon, Chad Kelly of Coal City and daughter,
Jacquelynn (Dr. Roman) Smyk of Morris; ten grandchildren; one sister, Betty Sjostrom of Morris; one brother, Bill Kelly of San
He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Also, Sonny liked to go fishing and doing yard work.
